Why do my torrents not show up on my desktop in osx even though that is the pathway ?

Hi, im trying to download torrents to my desk top from torrent tracker. the pathway shows that they should end up on my desktop but they never appear. Also the torrents dont show up in spotlight. It used to work fine untill i loaded a meta torrent program ( think it was tomato torrent ) which i couldt figure out how to use so deleted. thats when the probs started. any ideas?
