Why do we reproduce? philosophically?

i know we reproduce biologically to p our genes on, but what are we reproducing in hope of? Are we hoping for imortality to be discovered? where are we going? no matter how much we produce theres no where to go. its so confusing. there doesnt seem like a point to anything. are there any ideas i havent thought about philisophically or scientifically yet?
