I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 and my warranty expired last year.

I let my friend do her homework on my laptop Monday and now all of a sudden my computer has been infected with spyware. What can I do to get rid of this without paying Dell an arm and a leg to fix it? Are there any sites that offer free spyware protection. I'm not computer literate at all , so please help.
